In its fourth edition, the 2021 Pause Awards toast the bold individuals, startups, scaleups and large businesses for their outstanding achievements, innovations and creativity.

In the halls of the Miami themed venue, Bobby McGees, 63 winners come together to celebrate one another, with award categories that span from the Defiant Ones, the Inception Award, to You have Ethics. The year also saw a new award category added to the lineup. The Grand Prix Award is merit-based and celebrates the best in business, including brick-and-mortar businesses and tech companies and startups.
Grand Prix winners walked away with the world’s first NFT minted award trophies, furthering our commitment to digital authenticity and value. You can read more about it in our 2022 launch on the new website. But, for now, head over to the Pause Awards Trophy Shop to purchase your winning designer trophies.

Ovira, a Sydney-based health-tech company founded by Alice Williams, and Mr Yum – a four-time winner across Hammer, Work Sweet Work, Defiant Ones, and the Out of the Garage awards – were 2021’s Grand Prix award winners.

The top five industries that drew the most wins were computer tech (software), financial services, food & beverage, consumer goods, and education — with the average funding for a company entered sitting at a staggering $17 million, and the average age of the Founder being 37.

Out of 63 winners, there were six double title winners; two triple titles went to Ovira and Heaps Normal, while Mr Yum banked four awards.

Company winners included Linktree, Law on Earth, Nuheara, Safely, Slyp, Removify and Music Health and some individual winners included Nick Hudson (The Push for Better Foundation), Michelle Akhidenor (The Peers Project) and Emma McAllister (Education Perfect), among several others.

Highlighting the work and achievements of pathbreaking individuals, this year’s recipient of the Hall of Fame was Prof. Martin Green, the inventor of solar who followed suit after last year’s illustrious recipient, John O’Sullivan, who led the system design for the world’s first WiFi chipset.

We’re so proud to have been able to provide a platform for celebrating the winners’ contributions to building better ecosystems, and you best be assured that we’ll be back in 2022 with a bang!

Before we sign off, we’d like to give a big shout out to VicGov, who has partnered with us until 2023 to help build Pause Awards into the national tech and innovation program it aims to be. And of course, this year’s partners MYOB, Blackmagic Design and OVHcloud.
