Ten-word speech & dance-walk
If you win, there are only two things you need to worry about at the event. Your ten-words speech and dancing skills. Traditionally, winners do the dance-walk to get their certificate on the stage and then address crowds with their ten-words at the big show.
Ten-word speech
We’ve limited speeches to ten words so that we can go through all winners in one night and make it exciting in the process. So your ten-words should be chosen wisely. And make it ten, no more, no less! We’ll be pushing them out to the socials.
The ten-words could be your bold statement, future tagline, social commentary, product launch, a joke or anything else you see fit at the time. Make it smart, witty and punchy – this works the best. We encourage you to start preparing ahead of Awards Night for your ten-word speech!
Here is the sample:
“When they go low, we go high. That is all!”
Dance-walks
Dance-walks have stolen the show when we introduce it in 2020. They cut through the usually monotonous awards presentation and add a bit of flavour and excitement to each winner. The crowds loved seeing who pulls which dance moves on the blue carpet.
There shouldn’t be much preparation for it, just get on the floor and bust a move. Even if you can’t dance, it’s a great thrill and a lot of fun for those watching you. So don’t stress. Put on a show for your friends! In the past, we had breakdancers, cartwheelers and catwalkers. We’re open to anything.

Creating your profile
One of the best things about Pause Awards is that we give free personal profiles and landing business pages to our champions. We’ve decided to do this because we thought no awards are doing it, and we’re into building better ecosystems so people and businesses need to be highlighted.
We’ve created the most beautiful awards website on the market with great functionalities so we think you’re going to love coming back, using and sharing it. It’s like a curated version of your LinkedIn profile. Once you set it up, your profile doesn’t need much updating, unless you get new professional photos or want to update your bio.
You don’t need much to create your profile, just a professional photo, short bio and couple of other answers. Please make sure you have a good quality profile photo at the right resolution. We understand that some people don’t understand what’s the right resolution and what pixel sizes mean, but if your photo is pixelated, it’s not good.
Images in two sizes:
Used on your index profile within a large image carousel. These images should be business or product shots that look great. Do not include your logo. Can include only 1, but preferable to have 2-4.

Your biography
Your bio is capped at 50 words so you’ll have to be short, punchy and only put the summary of your best achievements. Please stay away from buzz terms such as Innovation Guru or Self Evangelist etc. Other professionals will read and it just never resonates well.
Business Index profiles
These are created as you enter Pause Awards, there will be a segment which will ask you to enter three pieces of information, once you’ve done that and uploaded images you are done. It should not take more than 15 minutes to complete the profile.
Please make sure that you have high quality images that represent your business, they can be anything but we suggest having a photo of the Founder/ CEO, product and people in the office. You can upload up to four images.
Just keep in mind that the Business Index on Pause Awards is an editorial style of content and we want to make sure that everything looks classy and it’s up to date.
Judges and Ambassador profiles
Judges can now apply online and set up their profile during the application process. As we mentioned above, you’ll need one good quality photo of yourself and 50 words bio.
Ambassadors will be privately invited to join Pause Awards so they will have separate entry to portal access but essentially will require the same information.
Setting up any of these profiles should not take more than 5 minute.
Contributor writing
We’re more than excited to present this opportunity for the innovation community to contribute to our newsroom. So why did we decide peer generated content is good?
The Australian ecosystem is growing at an accelerated pace and the current media channels are overflooded with paid content and not enough quality articles are written. There are few well crafted content beacons in the industry posting out on their own and we’d like to centralise some of those great reads and conversations to amplify their voices.
Our thinking and some feedback that we got is that there is a room for an alternative channel that fills this gap. Something like Medium or Apple news, but even more curated. We’ve already been called ‘the Broadsheet for tech’ by Merton Lawyers.
Who can contribute?
Almost everyone involved with Pause Awards, they include:
- Winners with a Winner’s Pack
- Judges, current and past
- Ambassadors
- Sponsors (paid)
- Community partners
- Special contributors invited by the Pause Awards
Where do I start?
Winners, Judges, Community Partners and Ambassadors can access this feature by logging into the Pause Awards portal and hitting the ‘Article EOI’ button under their profile.
Special contributors will have writer access to the portal and be able to just write articles and not see any other content related to Pause Awards.
We’ll manually send everyone access to write content by email.
What can I write about?
Pause Awards is the home for the champions of the industry. We want to make sure the content sent to us adheres to simple guidelines so that reading experience (or the pleasure) for the reader is taken into consideration, in simple terms, we need quality content with a point of view.
We don’t want:
- Copy pasted press releases
- Sales pitches
- HR news and job promotions
- Advertorials
- SEO backlinks
We want:
- Opinion pieces
- Industry and business insights
- Thought-leading stories
- Product launches
- Educational
The publishing process
When you submit your article it will need to go through the approval process first, so it won’t be uploaded immediately. If you are planning a product launch or just want to time the article going live please allow 3-5 business days minimum.
If your article has quality photos and generally is well written it may be approved in 2-3 business days. But if your article doesn’t have good photos, it’s not well written or is salesy it will be knocked back for further editing or not be published at all. Please follow simple guidelines below.
How to write an article people want to read?
Also known as the Audience’s Choice is a great way to engage the audiences from a wide spectrum of our ecosystem that may not have heard of Pause Awards, or teammates of those that have entered.
